Position Summary Post-Doctoral Associate AD – Mitchum 1 & 2 in CAES‑Plant Pathology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA.

Salary: $47,476; Full- time; 1.0 FTE; 8 AM–5 PM, Monday–Friday; start date 09/15/2022.

Open until filled; location Athens Area.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct research in lab (70 %): The incumbent will carry out research on the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, identify nematode genes important for parasitism, analyze genomic and transcriptomic datasets, clone candidate genes, and use molecular/genetic approaches to characterize function.

Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures (5 %): Planting, watering, harvesting seeds, and propagating nematode cultures.

Collect and analyze data (10 %): Collect data from experiments and analyze it directly and in collaboration with the PI.

Writing and reporting of research: Summarize and discuss results with the PI, prepare research updates, and produce periodic reports required for grant agencies.

Present results: Present research at professional scientific meetings at local, national and international venues.

Supervision of student workers: Supervise student workers and provide mentorship in collaboration with the PI.

Qualifications

PhD in molecular nematology, molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant molecular biology/genetics, plant development, or related field earned within the past 4 years.

Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in plant‑nematode interactions, molecular biology and genetics; preference for experience in statistical/bioinformatics analyses and plant transformation in crop or model plant systems.

Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Ability to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.

Physical Demands Light lifting, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
