At the University of Florida, we are a people of purpose. We're committed to challenging convention and ourselves. We see things not as they are, but as they could be. And we strive for a greater impact: one measured in people helped... Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and three years of experience in the field or in a related area; or a master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and one year of experience in the field or in a related area; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field. Extraction and Analysis of Residue Samples

Use validated methods to extract and prepare residue samples for analysis. Prepare standard solutions and reagents required for analysis. Analyze samples using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and occasionally using gas chromatography (GC) coupled to various detection systems, primarily triple quadrupole or Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Perform and document activities in compliance with EPA Good Laboratory Practice regulations and laboratory standard operating procedures. Method Evaluation and Development

Review literature for changes/improvements in preparative/analytical procedures. Evaluate analytical methods and modify as necessary to achieve acceptable method performance for difficult matrices i.e., dried herbs, oils, nutmeats, processed seed meal, etc. Develop and/or improve methods for extraction and analysis of pesticides in various crop matrices. Optimize analytical instrument parameters to achieve acceptable, reliable performance for the analysis of multiple analytes. Data Review and Report Preparation

Operate computer based automated data collection systems for data acquisition, processing, and quantitation. Prepare draft final reports and collect documentation required for Quality Assurance review. Review current laboratory standard operating procedures. General Duties

Conduct routine instrument cleaning, maintenance, and basic instrument troubleshooting. Contact contracted service providers for instrument repairs and maintenance. Document required repairs and service. Prepare and make available to lab personnel notes on proper instrument use and maintenance. General lab maintenance and cleaning. Participate in required training activities. Other duties as assigned. $50,000 - $65,000 commensurate with education and experience Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and three years of experience in the field or in a related area; or a master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and one year of experience in the field or in a related area; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field. Preferred

Knowledge of chemistry with an emphasis on analytical chemistry. Experience with procedures and techniques required for trace level residue analysis of pesticides. Knowledge and experience in instrumental analysis techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Knowledge and experience using triple quadrupole and high-resolution mass spectrometers. Knowledge of computer software used for data processing.
