We are currently seeking an
EnvironmentalConstruction Specialist
to work on Electric Utility Construction Projects. This is a field position, and candidates must have experience with environmental compliance in relation to land clearing and linear construction projects. What You Will Do Regulatory Compliance
Provide Environmental Compliance and construction oversight on transmission Site Development and Linear Transmission Line construction projects for Electric Transmission infrastructure.
Provide Environmental Oversight and compliance/inspections associated with Transmission Capital Projects and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations for wetland access, protected species, wood and debris disposal, site control and soil disturbance.
Ensure that all field operations are in compliance with permits, including road use permits, natural resource protection act permits, Corp of Engineers permits, etc.
Document pre‑ and post‑work field conditions to make sure that sites are in compliance with permits and environmental regulations and there are no conditions that require mitigation or restoration.
Field Operations
Perform all required erosion and sediment, stormwater management and pollution prevention inspections for applicable construction projects.
Interpret complex plans and drawings.
Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations.
Crew Oversight
Attend pre‑construction meetings, constructability meetings, and status meetings as directed.
Manage and oversee site development crews. Provide oversight for sediment and erosion control or Best Management Practice (BMP) contractors to ensure all measures are installed as per the approved plan.
Ensure that wetland and sensitive areas identification are in place and that crews are aware of them prior to entering such areas.
Stakeholder & Public Relations
Monitor and report to Project Management on status of construction units estimated and actuals billed to date of project.
Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public.
Subject Matter Expert Consulting
Assist in developing recommendations on future R‑O‑W maintenance requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations for the organization.
Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Need to Have
Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Construction Management, Building Science, or related field.
1‑5 years’ experience in Site Development work, permitting utility construction, Environmental Compliance, or a related field.
Solid understanding of the NPDES Construction General Permit (CGP) Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation and inspections associated with these permits and plans.
Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
Strong public relation skills/ability to interface with the public.
Willingness to work alone.
Basic computer skills.
Valid driver’s license.
What Would Be Amazing to Have
Substantial background in Electric Transmission Construction, Pipeline, and/or Utility field.
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) book knowledge.
CESSWI (Certified Erosion and Sediment/Stormwater Inspector).
Previous construction crew oversight experience.
GIS Experience.
Strong knowledge ANSI Z133 safety standards.
Military background is a plus.
Bi‑Lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus.
Working Environment Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
