As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) related to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, and an exceptional examination experience helps facilitate access to needed care. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive for service-connected health issues. Your clinical insights will support appropriate access to treatment when needed and contribute to continuity of care for Veterans. Clinical Examiners will use a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and be adaptable to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required. Please note that this position DOES NOT involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery. Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to other Loyal Source clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to understand the Veteran’s medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities. Case Management and Documentation: understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team. Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed. Document Examination Findings: accurately record findings in medical opinions and recommendations following VA guidelines and contractual requirements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and meet deadlines. Time Management and Scheduling: manage submission and availability for all C&P exams; ensure timely services to Veterans. Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and VA requirements; maintain accuracy and fairness in evaluations. Quality Assurance: work with QA to submit thorough examination findings; comply with VA training requirements and VA MDE program requirements. Confidentiality: safeguard patient information per privacy and security protocols; comply with HIPAA; complete annual HIPAA knowledge assessment as required. Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state or territory. Experience: Minimum 1 year of Nurse Practitioner experience; prior medical disability examination experience preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with renewals. Preferred: Military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities; specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations or occupational health. Clinical Skills: ability to conduct comprehensive medical assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate evidence-based opinions. Soft Skills: empathy, strong communication (verbal and written), ethics, integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team; strong organizational and time management skills. Compliance: authorized to work in the United States; comply with federal contractor guidelines. Travel & Schedule
