Overview
Wellstar Respiratory Therapist II position involves medication administration and implementing respiratory care in complex patient care situations, primarily in critical care with protocol ventilator management and significant independent decision-making. The RT II also educates patients and families, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and participates in education of new employees. The role addresses population-specific needs and considers biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Provides Customer Service: completion of patient care, documentation and education; team approach to service; promotes a team spirit and positive work environment; provides supportive environment for students and staff. Administers Quality Patient Care: performs patient assessment and assessment for therapy; collaborates with health care team in planning patient care; verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen & medical gas therapy; performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy care); performs arterial blood gas sampling & analysis; educates patient and mentors/precepts new employees, students and peers; location-specific support in invasive and non-invasive procedures, Cardiac Service procedures, and Pulmonary Diagnostic Testing. Provides Safe & Quality Environment: promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging; promotes patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.); supports Performance Improvement initiatives; promotes evidence-based practice; reviews revised and new DPPs. Education and Licenses
Required Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science; AS or BS degree as applicable. Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. NBRC-RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist), RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner), BLS (Basic Life Support) or BLS-I (BLS Instructor), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or ACLS-I, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PALS-I, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) or NRP-Provisional (180 Days) or NRP-Instructor. Required Minimum Experience: 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Required Skills
Ability to communicate well, critical thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases.
