Position Summary Responsible for administering diagnostic and habilitative/rehabilitative services to patients referred for services and maintaining records pertinent to such services. Observes, evaluates, and documents diagnostic and treatment effects. Consults with supervisor on program and professional development matters. Will also be involved in team dynamics and participate in interdisciplinary activities when appropriate. Responsibilities Evaluates speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing skills. Manages a caseload of patients with disorders of language, phonology/articulation, fluency, resonance, voice, swallowing, and alternative/augmentative communication. Direct treatment provision for speech, language, cognitive, voice, motor speech, alternative communication methods, and swallowing disorders. Develops advanced clinical skills in areas such as aphasia, motor speech disorders, cognitive-communicative disorders, dysphagia, augmentative communication devices, voice disorders, and developmental speech, language, swallowing, and feeding disorders. Completes documentation promptly and accurately; ensures supplies/equipment are maintained; reports malfunctions and requests service as needed. Communicates effectively with others through verbal, written, and nonverbal means. Seeks educational opportunities and attends workshops/seminars; applies knowledge to clinical practice and maintains records of participation; stays current with SLP practices/evidence for the patient population served. Ensures patient safety during direct care and clinical decision making; adheres to safety and best practice guidelines; reports unsafe conditions. Attends program/service line staff meetings; participates in goal setting, budgeting, staff utilization, space allocation, quality improvement, policy development, and inservice training. Adheres to standard operating procedures for the program/discipline, rehabilitation services, and the hospital; abides by ASHA code of ethics and NC licensure laws. Minimum Requirements Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or Master's degree in Communication Science and Disorders. Current Speech Language Pathology License issued by NCBOESLP(A). Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from ASHA, or must be obtained within one year of hire. Progressive and dynamic knowledge of Speech Language Pathology with willingness to participate in continuing education; ability to collaborate with other healthcare professionals. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a medically based Speech Language Pathology setting. Direct patient care experience with medically complex patients. Experience with tracheostomy/ventilator patients and instrumental swallowing evaluation techniques. Experience applying evidence-based evaluation and treatment techniques and modalities.
