Job Title: Veterinary Technician (Full‑Time, Mixed Animal)
Location: Hurricane, WV
Employment Type: Full‑time (Part‑time positions are available as well)
Salary: Competitive pay depending on experience — $17-24.00/hour
About Us Hurricane Animal Hospital is a busy mixed‑animal veterinary hospital providing high‑quality care to small animals and large animals (equine, bovine, small ruminants). Job Summary We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our full‑time team. The ideal candidate is experienced with both small and large animal medicine, comfortable in clinic and ambulatory settings, and able to work independently while collaborating closely with veterinarians and support staff.
Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries for small and large animals
Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery
Administer medications, calculate and prepare drug dosages, and maintain accurate drug logs
Place and monitor IV fluids and other supportive therapies
Collect, process, and interpret lab samples (CBC, chemistries, urinalysis, cytology, fecals)
Perform and assist with radiography (portable large animal and in‑clinic) and basic ultrasound assistance
Dental prophylaxis and dental charting
Provide client education on preventive care, treatment plans, and post‑op instructions
Maintain medical records, clean and sterilize instruments and equipment, and manage inventory
Participate in ambulatory/field visits and emergency/after‑hours rotations as scheduled
Minimum Qualifications
Veterinary Technician degree/diploma or equivalent hands‑on experience
Current credential preferred where applicable (RVT/LVT/CVT) or willingness to obtain
1–2+ years clinical experience
Strong animal handling skills across species and ability to lift/move patients
Excellent communication and client service skills
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for field visits
Preferred
Experience with anesthesia monitoring and dental procedures
Radiography and laboratory diagnostic skills experience
Comfort with emergency triage and critical care
Experience in monitoring vitals and administering medications
Strong communication skills and ability to educate pet owners on proper care practices
Work Schedule
Full‑time (usually ~36-38 hours/week)
Rotating weekend coverage and occasional after‑hours/on‑call emergencies
