Job Description Position Title:

Position Purpose All KHI employees are expected to perform their tasks and duties in support of KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country. Works under the direction of the physician and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to assess the patient’s total health needs; implements nursing interventions, develops and evaluates the plan of care, and responds to the patient’s needs. Strives to provide excellent patient care with kindness, compassion, and teamwork. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested. All care is provided with kindness and compassion.

Key Responsibilities

Quality of Care and Nursing Process: provide evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare Acquired Conditions and readmissions; practice standard precautions.

Assessment: collect patient health data; complete nursing assessments per hospital and unit policies; obtain data from patient, family, and other providers; prepare comprehensive history and physical with biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, cultural, and discharge planning needs.

Diagnosis / Care Needs: analyze assessment data to identify care needs; formulate plans with patient involvement as appropriate.

Implementation: base nursing care on identified diagnoses and standards; coordinate with other disciplines.

Evaluation: monitor patient progress and revise diagnoses/care needs as needed.

Clinical Lead: coordinate nursing personnel, care quality, patient satisfaction, and nursing process/compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program graduate.

Certification/Licensure:

Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license; current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross).

Unit Specific Requirements

Medical Surgical Units:

Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire.

Pediatrics:

PALS certification within 6 months of hire.

Intensive Care/Progressive Care Unit:

ACLS on hire; Basic EKG competency within 30 days.

Women’s Services:

NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Emergency Department:

ACLS and PALS within 3 months; ESI training within 6 months; TNCC within 24 months.

Hemodialysis:

ACLS; Basic EKG within 3 months.

Clinical Decision Unit:

Basic EKG competency within 3 months.

ECHO:

ACLS; Basic EKG within 30 days.

Surgical Services:

ACLS; Basic EKG within 30 days; CNOR encouraged.

Surgical Services/PACU/Outpatient:

ACLS and PALS; Basic EKG within 30 days.

Cath Lab:

ACLS; ECG competency on hire; minimum 2 years RN experience.

Cardiology:

Basic EKG competency within 30 days.

Clinical Lead / Additional Requirements Maintains BLS/ACLS/PALS, TNCC, De-escalation techniques, NRP, Basic EKG, and ESI as required per RN position and area.

Preferences

Education:

Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN).

Experience:

Experience in the respective clinical area is desired.

Unit Specific Preferences

Medical Surgical Units:

Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse encouraged; ACLS preferred.

Pediatrics:

One-year acute pediatric experience; Certified Pediatric Nurse encouraged.

ICU/Cardiovascular ICU:

Certified Critical Care Nurse encouraged; CVICU certifications encouraged; one-year PCU experience preferred.

Progressive Care Unit:

Two years acute care; PCU certification encouraged.

Women’s Services:

ACLS during orientation to C-Section recovery; S.T.A.B.L.E.; AWHONN fetal monitoring courses; lactation and obstetrical certifications encouraged.

Emergency Department:

One-year Acute Med/Surg; CCRN or CEN encouraged.

Other:

Various certifications and experience as indicated per unit.

Exposure and Work Requirements

Category I exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues; potential exposure to chemicals, biological, radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

Ability to manage multiple priorities; strong communication; operate standard equipment; assist with moving patients up to 300 lbs; care for patients with infectious diseases; able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods; color vision; reach above/below shoulder level.
