Position Overview: The Nurse I (Staff Nurse) performs entry-level to routine nursing work under supervision, conducting comprehensive assessments, identifying nursing diagnoses, establishing routines, and administering medications. The role involves working in a psychiatric inpatient setting, reporting to a Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager, and participating in multidisciplinary recovery plans. The position may involve participating in disaster response or COOP activities, possibly requiring shift or location changes.

Essential Job Functions:

Attend work regularly, including specific or rotating shifts, and perform assigned duties.

Assess patients' physical, behavioral, psychiatric, and social needs comprehensively.

Observe, analyze, and document patient behavior and status.

Develop or contribute to individualized recovery plans.

Provide health education and coping strategies to patients and families.

Use counseling skills in therapeutic interactions.

Administer medications and treatments, maintaining records.

Establish and monitor a safe, therapeutic environment.

Train staff in psychiatric nursing principles and unit routines.

Manage restraint or seclusion to ensure safety.

Participate in disaster response or COOP as needed, possibly involving shift or location changes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of nursing techniques, medical diagnoses, treatments, and community health principles.

Skills in patient care, treatment, and computer use.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Licensure and Certification: Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Texas or a party state with reciprocity, or holding a temporary permit under supervision. Must possess a valid Texas driver license if transporting patients.

Initial Screening Criteria: Graduation from an accredited nursing program or college with nursing coursework.
