Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist (RT) II is an advanced respiratory care practitioner with assessment and therapeutic skills, providing care to diverse patient populations. The RT II collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop and ensure effective patient care plans and can implement respiratory therapy independently. Opportunity:
Join our team in the newly renovated and expanded state-of-the-art NICU! As a NICU Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at MWHC, you'll provide specialized respiratory care to vulnerable neonates, utilizing equipment such as the 3100B oscillator, Servo N, nitric oxide administration, NIPPV, and NIV NAVA. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team ensures the highest standards of neonatal respiratory care. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Provide competent, compassionate, patient- and family-centered care based on respiratory processes and teamwork. Administer and assess responses to respiratory therapies, including aerosol, oxygen, bronchodilator therapies, and bronchopulmonary hygiene, with high proficiency. Evaluate treatment effects, monitor patient progress, and recommend adjustments. Establish and manage mechanical ventilation, including measuring ventilator parameters and blood gases. Develop and refine ventilator care plans, communicating with the care team based on evidence-based practices. Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring proper operation and performing preventive maintenance. Provide education and training to patients and families. Adhere to hospital policies to ensure patient and staff safety. Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and participation in professional societies. Serve as a Charge Therapist when needed. Participate in quality initiatives and performance improvement projects. Work competently in critical care areas such as ED, NICU, and ICU. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in Virginia. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program; CRT with 10+ years of experience or RRT preferred. Minimum of one year of respiratory therapy experience. AHA BLS CPR required at hire; ACLS within 90 days. NRP required within 90 days for NICU at MWHC; preferred for other units. Specialty credentials through NBRC and membership in AARC are preferred.
