Job Summary UT Southwestern is actively seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Mechanic II for our Utility Operations team. You will repair HVAC components such as pumps, motors, air handling units, exhaust fans, and piping to ensure reliable campus heating and cooling. As HVAC Mechanic II, you will perform advanced diagnostic and repair work on a variety of HVAC systems and serve as a lead mechanic on complex projects and system issues.

Work Location Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW buildings as needed.

Shift Requirement 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday; ability to work weekends and after‑hours during emergency situations; support area shift coverage when needed.

Required – Experience and Education

High School Diploma or equivalent or vocational school.

3 years of experience in operation and maintenance of large (≥ 25,000 cfm) air handling equipment, steam pressure reducing stations, chilled water systems, pumps, high‑pressure boilers, and auxiliary equipment and control systems; must be proficient in at least three systems.

Preferred

5 years of experience in operation of large industrial HVAC systems, including chilled water, hot water, steam, and related components.

Intermediate level knowledge of MS Excel.

Pipe welding experience.

Job Duties

Performs more complex diagnostic HVAC repairs and serves as a lead mechanic on projects and system issues.

Diagnoses root cause of problems and/or failures in HVAC systems to identify equipment or system repair and replacement needs.

Repairs HVAC systems and/or components (e.g., pumps, motors, AHUs, exhaust fans, piping) to ensure campus cooling and heating needs are met.

Works with vendors and contractors to obtain quotes for equipment repairs and assists with vendor coordination.

Supports area shift coverage, after‑hours or extended projects as needed and assists in major maintenance repairs.

Responds to emergency situations after hours for immediate safety concerns and equipment failures.

Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to convey or gather required information.

Trains and mentors new personnel; teaches basic knowledge of codes and proper tool use; trains lower‑level mechanics as needed.

Maintains tools and equipment to ensure safe operating condition; works with other mechanics and shops to keep equipment rooms free of trash, moisture leaks, unnecessary equipment, or unsafe conditions.

May perform HVAC Mech III duties in their absence.

Acts in a leadership capacity in the absence of the shop foreman or higher‑level HVAC mechanic.

Performs other duties as assigned.
