JOB TITLE: Insulator REPORTS TO: Superintendant SUMMARY Insulators are responsible for the installation and/or removal of insulation of any component onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization. Measures, cuts and/or fabricates materials for insulation application to bulkheads, overheads, piping, ducts, machinery and equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Apply insulation and covering to piping/machinery for water systems, AC, refrigeration, and steam machinery, bulkheads and overheads. Responsible for handling and applying rubber, fiberglass hullboard, pipe sections made of fiberglass or calcium silicate, fiberglass tape/cloth, adhesives and Tempmatt. Ability to read and understand blueprints Be sufficient in the application of lagging cloth, the use of band saw, stud guns and any other necessary power equipment Must be able to survey and design the appropriate insulation systems for any given application KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES A working Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities and have a dependable work ethic Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form including but not limited to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience. WORKING CONDITIONS Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery EQUIPMENT USED Hand Tools, Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, scanner REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS May be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions LOCATION
