Job Description This position conducts inspections and tests in the assigned specialty area to enforce compliance with the County adopted codes, laws, rules and regulations. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of the assigned supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.
This inspector inspects construction for compliance with adopted mechanical codes, plans & specifications of the State of Florida Energy, Mechanical, NFPA, ASHRAE and Gas Codes when systems are enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, demolished, or installed.
Conduct inspections for compliance with adopted codes, ordinances and state statutes.
Read and interpret construction plans and blueprints; inform public of building code changes and explain code to contractors, architects, engineers and homeowners.
Maintain accurate records of inspection activities and violations.
Utilize Building Division mobile data computer system; assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or other emergency duties assigned.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Mechanical Inspector I High school graduate or equivalent and 4 years of experience in the construction industry. An associate's or bachelor's degree in related field may substitute for up to 3 years of experience on a one-for-one basis with a minimum of 1 year of construction experience.
Experience must be verified during the first week of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
A provisional inspector license in the applicable trade must be obtained within 120 days of hire and a standard inspector license within two years; otherwise the employee must forfeit the position.
Mechanical Inspector II High school graduate or equivalent and 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with similar degree substitution as above.
Must possess State of Florida Standard Inspector license for the mechanical discipline.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Salary Mechanical Inspector I: Pay Grade 014 – $23.19 to $30.14/hr
Mechanical Inspector II: Pay Grade 018 – $31.30 to $40.70/hr
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; placement based on education and experience.
