Job Description The Field Services Division is looking for qualified Engineering Inspector I/II positions. These positions will be inspecting work performed by contractors in areas such as utilities infrastructure, structural coating, gravity main lining and construction site restoration. The role is performed under field conditions and is part of the Field Services Construction Inspection team at Curry Ford.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Perform technical level inspections of projects assigned to the Utilities Field Services Division under field conditions.
Read and interpret design plans, specifications and approved documentation.
Inspect multimillion dollar utilities projects including pipeline, pump station, water and wastewater treatment plants, subdivision rehabilitation and new construction of residential and commercial development.
Supervise and/or perform inspection to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved design plans, specifications and applicable regulations.
Make field changes that do not alter the scope and cost of construction.
Schedule and observe contractor’s materials, structure and process tests and evaluations.
Maintain records and prepare inspector reports; may act as joint supervising inspector in the absence of the assigned supervisor.
Serve as the Residential Project Representative (RPR) and sole point of contact for projects, coordinating with contractors, Chief Utilities Inspector, Supervisor, Engineer of Record, OCU Engineering, OCU Field Services and other County departments.
Coordinate laboratory or onsite field testing of civil and mechanical construction as required.
Prepare and maintain daily reports, photographic records and red line drawings/specifications documenting deviations, conflicts, changes and clarifications.
Maintain an electronic and physical filing system of project documentation, including shop drawings, contractor RFIs, NCNs, RPCs, change orders, pay applications and testing logs.
Respond as a First Responder per F.S. 403.865 and report to work during emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Driver’s license; obtain Florida Driver’s license by hire date.
High school diploma or equivalent and:
Engineering Inspector I: 2 years of engineering or construction experience or equivalent.
Engineering Inspector II: 4 years of appropriate engineering or construction experience or equivalent.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must complete the Contractor’s Underground Utility Examination for inspectors within the specified time frame (2 years for I, 6 months for II).
Ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.
Preferences
Experience in utilities, roadways (concrete, asphalt), electrical, plumbing or geotechnical inspections.
Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications for infrastructure projects.
Experience working with contractors in field environments.
