FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN – PV AT SUNGROW (SPRINGFIELD, IL, US)

Field Service Technician – PV | Sungrow | Springfield, IL, US This role supports field service operations related to commissioning, warranty, and operations and maintenance (O&M) of installed solar sites in the region. Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, this position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning support of PV inverters and ancillary equipment and systems, usually at the customer’s site or at a staging yard/warehouse. This position will comply with the Safety Mandate, ZERO HARM, to ensure safe and efficient work and operation of the facility for all personnel and equipment. Ensures that personnel and safety issues are given priority to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. Implements and enforces safety management policy and procedures regarding the facility: safety information, hazard analysis, safe operations/maintenance training, subcontractor compliance, plant integrity, work permits, emergency planning, and response. Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment. Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines. As needed, support and perform pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans. Additionally, for those on O&M capacity, perform Preventive Maintenance and other LTSA activities per the contract. Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients. For BESS positions, investigations may also involve SOC checks and module/component-level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, SW version updates, etc. Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements. Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project’s technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments. Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed. Accurately describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed. Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems. Perform basic corrective maintenance. Create/modify Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required. When using contractors on sites, act as the lead to ensure daily activity reports, JSA reports, and work follow Sungrow standards and expectations. Prepare and submit own Daily Activity Reports and Daily JSA Reports. Work independently in the field and with Design Engineers to resolve high-level technical issues, supporting root-cause investigations for technology applications on complex projects. Coordinate with engineering, logistics, finance, and program management to maintain solar plant operations. Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures. Complete documentation in a timely and organized fashion. Follow level-appropriate standard operating procedures. Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirements. Serve as a safety second if needed.
