Lead CAD Drafter POSITION SUMMARY
Glass Roots Construction (GRC) was founded by a team of well-funded career telecom and construction professionals. We look to leverage the latest technologies, best-in-industry equipment, and up-to-date construction and safety practices to build a first-class fiber optic utility construction firm in multiple markets throughout the US.GRC is seeking a Lead CAD Drafter to support our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD, Fiber Design, and industry standards, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering and offers the opportunity to join a growing team, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the expansion of a nationwide fiber optic construction and engineering firm. Responsibilities
The Lead CAD Drafter is responsible for drafting, coordinating surveys, coordinating with permit management, and coordinating with GRC leadership to achieve project success. Support PM and Drafting manager in all associated engineering administrative tasks. Basemap, draft, and engineer both aerial and UG fiber optic utility permits and construction drawings. Assist Design and Draft manager in all CAD templates creation. Review and complete aerial and UG permit drawings. If needed assist in review of quality of aerial and UG permit drawings. Abide by all national UG and NESC engineering standards while drafting. Evaluate engineering scope and logistics. Ensuring the timely completion of drafting engineering deliverables. Assist in gathering related engineering variables to determine best route and cost. Work directly with the project manager to oversee the overall success of the project, adhering to company engineering practices. Ensure communication of all drafting timelines is clearly communicated. Assist in the communication between engineering subs and CAD template Standards. Create basemaps, design, as-builts, Google Earth, KMZ files, GIS data, and AutoCAD. Project trackers. Assist in performing quality control checks for draft and drafting subs. Assist the VP of Engineering with engineering dates for all engineering associated effective design solution milestones. Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum of 4 years’ experience with drafting in the telecom industry. Proven proficiency drafting in various states and jurisdictions. Proven success with communication and ROW construction drawings. Understanding utility construction processes and terminology. Experience in various GIS practices. Strong technical/business knowledge in the telecom industry. Ability to be adaptable in engineering products and deliver milestones. Ability to maintain a high level of organization by ensuring daily job allocation. Excellence in planning CAD design flow / engineering methodology and processes. Ability to determine potential risks with engineering standards. Ability to welcome feedback and use it to improve the quality of production. Excellence in verbal and oral communication skills. Preferred Skills
Strong data entry skills. Microsoft office certifications encouraged. Strong background in CAD template Standards. Strong background with, design, as-builts, Google Earth, KMZ files, GIS data, and AutoCAD. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Process and documentation orientation, with a focus on continuous improvement Strong written and verbal communications skills. Experience with Google Suite (Sheets, etc.), Zoho, and project management tools a plus. Requirements
A valid driver’s license is required for all positions. 4-year degree, military experience, or 6-year minimum related working experience. Travel is required (approx. 5%) Benefits
