Chemical and Biological Engineering Rank

Professor The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) and the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama (UA) invite applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor within the department. This posting is specific for candidates applying for a position at the rank of Full Professor. Candidates with research interests across ALL domains relevant to chemical and biological engineering are encouraged to apply, with particular emphasis in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or biomanufacturing strongly encouraged for one or more of these positions. Position Details

The ChBE department and the College of Engineering invite applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at all ranks within ChBE. This posting is specific for applicants pursuing the rank of Full Professor. Applications for Assistant or Associate Professor ranks should apply through related postings advertised at those levels. Distinguished Professorship endowment opportunities may be available for candidates with exceptional national/international reputations and a strong scholarly record. Interested candidates should indicate this in their cover letter. ChBE research strengths include bioengineering, membranes and membrane-based separations, battery materials and energy storage, electrochemical systems, catalysis and reaction engineering, and soft matter. Candidates with emphasis in bioengineering (computational, microbiome, environmental), biomedical engineering (immuno/bioengineering), and biomanufacturing (bioprocess automation, sensing, control) are of particular interest. Candidates focusing on process optimization, supply chain, safety, and life cycle assessment are also encouraged. The College and University benefit from several large research centers and institutes (e.g., the Alabama Water Institute; the Alabama Mobility and Power Center; Alabama Materials Institute; UA Polymers and Soft Materials Research Center). Applicants with related fields including water modeling, materials for extreme environments, batteries/energy storage, and computational/experimental materials science are encouraged to apply. The UA High Performance Computing and Data Center and related resources support these activities. The ChBE department offers a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and a new M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. The department’s undergraduate program is among the top-10 largest nationally, with average annual enrollment over the past five years exceeding 400 students and a robust population of National Merit Finalists/Scholars. Graduates are highly sought after by industry and top research institutes. Responsibilities and Expectations

The College of Engineering and ChBE emphasize teaching, research, and service. Candidates should demonstrate potential to build and lead a productive, extramurally funded research program with impact in a focus area that complements existing strengths. Collaboration with current ChBE and College faculty and across campus is highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities include developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and courses that support the department’s core degree programs. The department values collegial and supportive engagement within the College community. Minimum Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Demonstrated record of prior research and impactful scholarly publications (refereed journals, conference proceedings, etc.). Demonstrated interest and/or record in chemical engineering and/or bioengineering education and professional service in area(s) of specialization. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Potential to construct and sustain a quality research program. Potential for excellent teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Full Professor. Preferred Qualifications

Have 10+ years of experience as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member at a leading peer R1 institution. Demonstrated record of high-quality national/international research and publications. Significant scholarly record in an engineering department with undergraduate and graduate programs. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Application Instructions and Materials
