Overview

Caton Construction Group, one of The Caton Companies, is growing. We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to service and repair our fleet of heavy construction equipment. This position will be based out of our division office in Cary, North Carolina, and will serve construction projects throughout North Carolina, with occasional travel to our equipment shop and other projects in Virginia. The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic, under general supervision, is responsible for field and shop diagnostics, maintenance and repair of diesel engines and hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems powering heavy duty equipment, including trucks, road construction and maintenance machinery and vehicles and medium and light weight equipment. Responsibilities

Follow a checklist of inspection procedures Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions Read and interpret diagnostic test results using dials, gauges, and computer equipment Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment Disassemble and reassemble equipment and parts Troubleshoot and test operation of engines, drive train, hydraulic and exhaust systems to determine causes of malfunctions Provide lead work direction to semiskilled or unskilled workers when needed Perform field troubleshooting, emergency repairs, preventive maintenance tests, and body modifications and repair work at field sites to keep equipment operational Maintain and repair light, medium, and heavy equipment to minimize downtime, including engines, cooling and heating systems, air and hydraulic systems, brakes, transmission and drive train, and electronic monitoring systems Fabricate, modify, and install special equipment; use welding equipment; restore vehicle bodies; use tools and paint colors Perform preventive maintenance inspections, diagnose defective components, file repair records, and complete arrival inspections on new equipment Position Details

This is a full-time position. Days and hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening, overnight, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel as project equipment needs arise. Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent High school or postsecondary courses in automotive repair, diesel engine repair, electronics, and mathematics Benefits
