Specialized Maintenance Field Service Technician
What You Can Expect
As a Specialized Maintenance Field Service Technician, you will support the safe and reliable operation of ENGIE’s renewable energy assets. Your responsibilities include onsite technical support for project commissioning, system inspections, troubleshooting, equipment repairs, maintenance, and upgrades across wind turbines, solar photovoltaic systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and medium- to high-voltage substations. You will contribute to asset availability, operational performance, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities
Support daily operations and long‑term maintenance of ENGIE’s BESS, solar, and wind assets.
Perform hands‑on technical work on inverters, BESS units, DC electrical systems, solar arrays, and medium‑voltage transformers.
Respond to unplanned maintenance needs and participate in preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
Assist with system commissioning and troubleshoot equipment onsite and remotely.
Enforce compliance with safety protocols (JSAs, LOTO, PPE).
Conduct routine site inspections using specialized tools (hot sticks, arc‑flash suits, voltage detectors, oil sampling kits).
Generate accurate documentation of all work performed.
Coordinate and oversee third‑party contractors and vendors.
Support upgrades, technology enhancements, and site improvement initiatives with engineering teams.
Assist in training team members and contractors on equipment operation and safety practices.
Utilize digital systems for managing work orders, procurement, and inventory tracking.
Support electrical maintenance, testing, and repair of low, medium, and high voltage systems during emergencies and planned outages in substation environments.
Qualifications
Minimum two (2) year technical diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, or equivalent experience.
At least two (2) years of hands‑on experience in solar generation, BESS, wind generation, or substation maintenance.
Experience with equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and routine operations in renewable energy environments.
Familiarity with major OEM systems such as Sungrow, Tesla, CATL, Power Electronics, Rizen, or BYD preferred.
Strong understanding of electrical theory, power systems, and medium‑voltage (up to 34.5 kV) equipment operations; higher voltage experience desired up to 345 kV.
Knowledge of substation and collection system components desirable.
Experience with transmission and distribution electrical systems desirable.
Ability to perform switching operations and isolate MV transformers and breakers safely.
Knowledge and experience with LOTO procedures, switching, and tagging.
Capability to troubleshoot and maintain OEM control systems and interface with SCADA and plant control systems.
Willingness to obtain a Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) certification within 12 months of hire.
Travel and Working Conditions
Position based at an operational site with regular travel to ENGIE facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
Flexibility to be on‑call and respond to plant emergencies; independent work in remote locations.
Must be available to travel domestically up to 85% of the time.
Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record.
Position consists of 30% indoor and 70% outdoor work; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions.
Compensation Hourly Range: $36.00 – $50.17 USD.
Eligible for competitive bonus/incentive plan and emergency/on‑call pay.
