Harry James Group
Overview
The
Harry James Group
is working with a service provider for renewables asset owners. The Solar & Storage Technician is responsible for executing electrical, communications, and commissioning activities for utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This includes performing detailed electrical testing, SCADA/network troubleshooting, cold and hot commissioning, and field integration tasks on high-voltage and medium-voltage systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with inverters, transformers, switchgear, control systems, and energy storage components on large-scale renewable power plant sites. Key Responsibilities
Perform electrical acceptance testing and functional verification of solar PV systems, inverters, and BESS units Execute cold commissioning, startup, and hot commissioning procedures for utility-scale solar and storage assets Conduct point-to-point communication checks for SCADA, protection relays, PLCs, HMI, and networking hardware Interpret electrical single-line diagrams, installation drawings, and commissioning plans Troubleshoot and resolve issues in DC, AC, and control circuits across PV and BESS systems Assist in inverter startup, transformer energization, and battery module balancing and verification Perform insulation resistance testing (megger), grounding verification, IV curve tracing, and thermal imaging Verify firmware versions, upload configuration files, and log commissioning test results Complete all QA/QC documentation and redlines, ensure compliance with project specifications Follow safety protocols including LOTO, NFPA 70E, and OSHA regulations for energized work Coordinate with OEMs, utility representatives, engineers, and construction teams on-site Document test procedures, field changes, and commissioning punch-lists for closeout packages Participate in site walkdowns and system turnover to operations teams Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent 1-3+ years of experience in solar, electrical, or battery storage commissioning Strong knowledge of electrical theory, PV system architecture, and energy storage components Familiar with commissioning tools such as multimeters, megohmmeters, network analyzers, and data loggers Working knowledge of inverters (e.g., SMA, Sungrow, Power Electronics), and BESS (e.g., Fluence, Tesla, CATL) Ability to read and interpret construction and electrical documentation Proficient in safety procedures and use of PPE for high-voltage work Willingness to travel and work in remote field locations Preferred
Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Renewable Energy, or related field OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E required, and CPR/First Aid certifications are preferred NETA, NABCEP, or other industry certifications are preferred (not required) SCADA/PLC networking or programming experience Interested, APPLY NOW!
