Location Arden, NC – This position will be based at the BorgWarner Arden facility in Western North Carolina and will transition to a new facility with a specific location to be finalized.

Job Purpose BorgWarner is currently seeking an Operations Group Leader with cross‑functional experience to take on a multifaceted leadership role. This individual will be responsible for leading a small team focused on building early prototypes and initial production units. They will work closely with engineering teams to recommend improvements that enhance production readiness. As the product moves toward full‑scale manufacturing, this role will oversee the transition, ensuring that builds meet safety, quality, and performance standards. Following the launch, they will be tasked with building, developing, and managing the production team to support ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Work with Manufacturing engineering to build a small operations team to accomplish prototype builds and pull ahead production builds.
Leverage learnings from prototype builds and support the production launch of new business.
Develop and manage departmental staffing.
Identify and drive improvements around constraints in manufacturing (people, process, or equipment).
Drive team leader and team member development.
Build, lead, and develop teams.
Apply strong technical knowledge of lean manufacturing, machine design, and assembly process.
Manage KPIs such as OEE, scrap, and quality incidents.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business needs.
Ensure a safe work environment and conduct root‑cause analysis for all safety‑related incidents.
Execute disciplinary actions, corrective actions, and terminations as necessary.
Oversee all departmental activities in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Build employee engagement through thoughtful incorporation of employee ideas.
Account for area performance measures and individual employee performance; provide coaching and direction at all levels.
Communicate effectively at all levels.
Support all shifts for manufacturing during the week and weekends, if necessary.
Maintain timelines, efficiency, and cost control.
Develop relationships with manufacturing, quality, HR, IT, accounting, materials, and equipment suppliers to facilitate process improvements.
Lead and motivate employees per BorgWarner philosophy.
Understand all requirements of each job reporting to this position.
Ensure each person performs all required tasks and receives adequate training.
Perform other duties as needed.
What We Are Looking For
Strong technical skills and knowledge of lean manufacturing processes and procedures.
Familiarity with proven safety or quality programs (e.g., Kaizen).
Thorough knowledge of statistical process control and lean principles.
Automotive or industrial experience preferred.
Experience with SAP preferred.
Ability to create and organize large amounts of production data to determine and act on trends to drive KPI improvements.
High aptitude for problem solving.
Knowledge of advanced aspects of products/processes that are managed.
Experience building, leading, and motivating teams.
Understanding of human resource management and development skills.
Proficient knowledge of project management techniques and tools (Gantt & PERT charts, etc.).
Four‑year degree preferred.
Attendance on the job is essential.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Professional verbal and written communication skills essential.
