Requires a strategic approach to sourcing, supplier relationship management, and cost analysis to ensure the company’s purchasing needs and cost savings metrics are met efficiently and economically. Key responsibilities include selecting, developing and managing the supply base for existing production material while maintaining competitive pricing with emphasis on cost reductions, quality, and supplier delivery performance. Key Accountabilities Negotiate long-term agreements for series production components. Strategize the purchasing of automotive and industrial components locally and globally with support of the Global Commodity Managers. Plan, organize, track, and disseminate information related to production suppliers. Create/develop new cost reduction ideas YOY using Design for Value (DfV), VA/VE, Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Assembly (DfA), lean concepts, etc. Meet or exceed metrics developed by corporate goals. Support the global commodity strategy and processes. Select suppliers through proven procurement skills in automotive or non-automotive environments (market testing, supplier evaluations and risk assessments). Reduce YOY costs through aggressive negotiations, resourcing, market testing, Value Analysis, Long Term Agreements (LTA), Business Incentives (BI), Annual Improvement Factor (AIF), as well as supplier bundling and/or dual sourcing. Explore and pursue cost reduction opportunities using cost model tools and bubble charts. Recommend supplier process utilization by interpreting blueprints and evaluating customer needs. Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships with effective communications. Ensure compliance to company purchasing guidelines and procedures during negotiations and awards. Explore new technologies and implement best practices related to purchasing activities. Develop new suppliers that meet BorgWarner cost, quality and delivery requirements. Prepare and lead RFQs for multi-year full production quantities. Evaluate part designs with engineering, quality and suppliers to obtain optimum efficiencies. Participate in purchasing-related internal meetings and reports for senior management (cost reduction reports, commodity strategies, cross-functional project reports). Maintain complex spreadsheets with supply base data (prices, weights, volumes, supplier names, etc.). Understand and adhere to health, safety, environmental, quality, and control policies. Identify and close safety issues and corrective actions. Perform other duties as needed. Qualifications Requires a four-year degree in business or engineering; and 5 years purchasing experience (industrial environment preferred). Strong knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding, and cost breakdown. Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools. Effective communication skills; strong presentation skills. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. ERP/MRP experience preferred (SAP a plus). Industry knowledge or understanding of automotive processes and components; engineering background is a plus. Practical procurement experience of industrial components or commodities. Proficient in MS Office; ability to read and interpret blueprints; strong negotiation skills; able to work in a team. Proficient in English. Must follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.
