Warren, MI Salary:
$131,000 - $202,000 Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility through human‑centered design. We create vehicles and experiences that are not only seen but felt, turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard—from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next‑generation safety and entertainment features. Every day our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. This position requires the engineer to be on‑site in their respective production facility for as much as 12 to 18 months during launch, returning home every other weekend. This includes weekends and holidays, as well as off‑shifts as projects require. The Manufacturing Process Engineer works independently with minimal supervision and is responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes. This includes defining equipment and tooling solutions, operation sequences, and material flow to ensure efficient use of personnel, machinery, and facilities in the production of parts and assemblies. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity, initiative, and independent judgment are exercised. In this position, you will be an individual contributor while collaborating cross‑functionally to support peers and achieve team goals. Responsibilities
Define manufacturing processes and budget, including operation sequence and equipment selection, considering efficient material flow. Manage project teams across design, construction, integration, plant installation, launch, and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required for high‑quality assembly production, tracking project budget. Proactively seek stakeholder and customer feedback to develop solutions that balance customer needs and business priorities. Identify opportunities and propose solutions to improve internal processes, services, and structures supporting manufacturing strategies. Drive build validation at program launch to achieve throughput and quality targets—including dimensional, surface quality, welding, and torque. Develop, document, and share knowledge of lean principles and lessons learned on the project. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent training/experience. Minimum of 2 years manufacturing engineering or manufacturing operations experience. Willingness to travel for extended periods (at least 1 year). High level of problem‑solving and issue‑resolution aptitude. Technical knowledge of automated processes and commitment to personal development. Ability to collaborate with an extended team toward a common goal. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and customers. Demonstrated judgment to work autonomously while seeking guidance when needed. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s of Science in Engineering. Controls/Robotics experience. Certified Project Manager. 6‑sigma Green or Blackbelt. Quality Project Management experience. Experience managing vision‑guided robot solutions. Experience with continuous moving lines & torque systems. Experience providing technical direction and leadership of manufacturing processes (welding, dispense, throughput, or body shop tooling vendor leadership). Success in Design for Manufacturing during new product launches. Seniority Level
