Overview
Social Service Practitioners provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to children and/or families with complex health, psychological or economic problems. Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments. Responsibilities
Investigate and/or support cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions. Engage in travel and field work, including home visits, as part of routine assignments. Complete risk and safety assessments as part of client involvement. Provide case management and coordination with external services as needed. Initial Appointment / Advancement

Social Service Practitioners are hired at the following levels and promote within the series according to criteria in the Professional Unit Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Starting salary may be commensurate with qualifications and/or child welfare experience. Social Service Practitioner II: S2: $71,510.40 – $95,867.20 annually Social Service Practitioner III: S4: $87,068.80 – $103,521.60 annually Note:
Completed service hours at the SSP I (Trainee) level shall not count toward the service hour requirement to advance from the SSP II level to the SSP III level. Benefits

Candidates may receive additional compensation as specified in the MOU. Available incentives include: Bilingual Positions : Additional compensation for positions requiring bilingual skills; testing may be required. Standby / Call-back Rotating / Swing / Night Shift : Possible evening/night differential and flexible schedules; willingness to work weekends is requested. Conditions of Employment
Travel : statewide and nationwide travel may be required; local travel reimbursed by IRS rates. Valid California driver license and insurance required. Physical : Ability to conduct home visits and assess risk and safety; ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs may be required. Applicants must meet one of the following options: Option A : MSW from a CSWE-accredited school. Option B : MS in Human Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling (with focus on marriage, family or child counseling) with either 500 hours of supervised clinical internship or one year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. Option C : BSW from CSWE-accredited school and one year of casework experience as a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. Option D : Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of casework experience as a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. Option E : Successful completion of training period as a Social Service Practitioner I in San Bernardino County. Candidates in final year of Master’s program : Applications accepted up to 120 days before degree completion; offers may be contingent on degree completion. See notes in the announcement for details. Other notes: Degrees earned outside the U.S. require a credential evaluation showing equivalency; additional information may be requested at interview.
