Job Summary

The City of Livermore is hiring two (2) Water Resources Mechanic vacancies at the I or II level. This description applies to the Water Resources Mechanic I position; a separate listing is available for the Water Resources Mechanic II. Key Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment used in wastewater treatment, collection, storm, and water distribution systems. Repair and maintain pumps, motors, compressors, piping, boilers, HVAC systems, mechanical drives, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, chemical feed systems, valves, filtration devices, and other related treatment equipment. Maintain water resources facilities, including treatment plant, sewer lift stations, storm lift stations, facility buildings, grounds/landscaping, and underground infrastructure. Perform welding, fabricate parts, paint equipment, and maintain a clean shop, organized inventory, and work area. Administrative Functions

Maintain accurate up-to-date records and logs. Research prices and submit requests for materials; ensure contract compliance. Use computers for spreadsheets and specialized functions; may provide direction to temporary employees. Essential Qualifications

Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repairs of pumps, plumbing systems, electric motors, compressors, piping, boilers, excavation, building systems, HVAC, mechanical drives, gearboxes, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, chemical feed systems; safe operation of hand and power tools; safe operation of vehicles and confined space entry; first aid techniques; record keeping; computer operating systems and software, including SCADA. Skill in keeping accurate records and logs; working safely and independently; troubleshooting motor control centers; making precise repairs; reading blueprints and O&M manuals; troubleshooting electrical connections up to 480‑volt, 3‑phase; communicating effectively; using computers for specialized tasks; displaying a proactive, service‑oriented attitude. Ability to apply required knowledge and skills daily; learn and follow City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Experience, Education, and Training

Minimum three (3) years of mechanical repair experience on pumps, motors, gearboxes, plumbing, and related equipment in wastewater treatment or related industry. High school graduate or equivalent; additional training in equipment maintenance and repair is preferred. Any recent academic or certification training relevant to the position is acceptable. Licensing and Certifications

Valid California Class C driver’s license and satisfactory driving record (or Commercial Class A license with endorsements after probation). Required: California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade I Certificate before completion of probation. Required: California National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) Mobile Crane Operator License for Telescopic Boom Cranes – Swing Cab (TLL) and Telescopic Boom Cranes – Fixed Cab (TSS and STC) prior to completion of probation. Special Requirements

Willingness and ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime; be on call as required. Acceptable to work in confined and awkward spaces, in or around raw and treated wastewater, in heat, cold, rain, and potentially hazardous conditions. Ability to drive vehicles, operate heavy equipment, read fine print, identify mechanical noises, use hand tools, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and lift up to 100 + pounds; safely use self‑contained breathing apparatus; work in confined spaces. Employment is subject to the City’s policy on drug and alcohol testing, Federal Highway Administration regulations, and the City’s policy concerning safety-sensitive functions.
