Overview

TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger) – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work and is responsible for park operations, maintenance, and visitor services at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Operates all types of equipment including power mowers, tools, tractors, and other gasoline-operated equipment. Provides customer service, issues park permits, and performs fee collection duties. Responsible for overseeing work of community service workers, volunteer staff, and other alternative workforces. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the park\'s natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction tasks for Government Canyon State Natural Area.

Maintain facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds; operate power mowers, tractors, and other equipment.

Provide customer service, issue park permits, and conduct fee collection.

Oversee work of community service workers, volunteers, and other workforces; supervise as needed.

Enforce park rules and regulations; assist in resource management tasks and interpretation of park resources.

Work with general supervision and exercise independent judgment as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure:

Valid state driver\'s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Substitutions

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the public and in customer service/public relations.

Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance tasks.

Skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication.

Ability to operate tools and equipment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.

Ability to perform manual labor and apply pesticides/herbicides in accordance with regulations.

Working Conditions

Work in a public park with day-use and overnight camping; 40 hours per week with varying schedules; some evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required.

Respond to emergency situations; outdoor work with possible adverse weather; lift up to 50 lbs.

Travel up to 5% with possible overnight stays; operate a state vehicle; comply with safety procedures.
