Overview TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for the maintenance and repairs at Garner State Park. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, equipment, and grounds; operates all types of equipment such as power mowers, electric power tools, tractors, heavy equipment, trucks and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Transports equipment as needed within and between state parks and vendors for repairs. Assists with the preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of and repair to buildings, facilities and grounds. Provides high quality customer service. Provides assistance with resource management activities. Coordinates work with other park staff and volunteers. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work at Garner State Park and other state parks as assigned.

Maintain and repair facilities, buildings, equipment and grounds; operate power mowers, electric power tools, tractors, heavy equipment, trucks and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.

Transport equipment within and between state parks and vendors for repairs.

Assist with preventative maintenance, cleaning and inspection of buildings, facilities and grounds.

Provide high quality customer service and support resource management activities.

Coordinate work with park staff and volunteers; follow agency, division and branch rules and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience: Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver’s license.

Note: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the public.

Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

Knowledge of trail maintenance and equipment maintenance and small engine repair.

Knowledge of general custodial duties and basic mathematics.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in operating heavy equipment such as pay loaders, backhoes, etc.; ability to provide quality customer service.

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as part of a team; work in fast-paced environments with changing priorities.

Ability to learn welding and cutting (arc, MIG and oxy-acetylene).

Ability to handle cash and account for revenue; follow park rules and regulations.
