About The Team This public health organization is dedicated to protecting and improving community health across the state. It uses data‑driven approaches, geospatial analysis, and innovative technologies to monitor health trends, respond to emergencies, and support evidence‑based decision‑making. The agency collaborates with local leaders, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to ensure effective health interventions and resource allocation.

Major Duties

Maintain and update GIS data layers to support public health initiatives and operational projects, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

Develop and manage GIS applications and interactive dashboards, including real‑time respiratory illness dashboards to monitor trends and inform public health decisions.

Perform spatial and geospatial analyses to guide data‑driven decision‑making for public health projects and emergency response efforts.

Create high‑quality maps, visualizations, and reports, supporting both internal stakeholders and public‑facing platforms.

Design and produce maps illustrating public health regions, counties, healthcare facility locations, and population estimates to assist with resource planning and interventions.

Develop interactive dashboards and data visualizations to track health metrics, trends, and resource allocation for public health and local leadership.

Respond to new project requests, prioritize tasks, and deliver results within deadlines while supporting ongoing public health initiatives.

Troubleshoot GIS data, software, and application issues to maintain smooth workflow operations.

Publish reports and surveillance summaries to provide insights into the prevalence and spread of respiratory viruses and other health concerns.

Participate in team meetings and training sessions, contributing to knowledge sharing and skill development.

What We’re Looking For

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field preferred.

Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.

Experience with ArcGIS Experience Builder (required).

Python scripting (preferred) for automation or analysis tasks.

Experience with ArcGISHub, ArcGIS Business Analyst, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and ArcGIS Survey123 preferred.

Ability to manage, update, and maintain GIS data layers.

Strong understanding of spatial analysis, mapping, and visualization best practices.

Knowledge of evaluation and measurement concepts and methods and their application to geospatial analysis.

Experience with database concepts (table design, relationships, indexing strategies, and normalization).

Knowledge of Java, VBScript, and JavaScript.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to respond to project requests quickly and adapt to changing priorities.

Effective time management to meet deadlines on multiple projects.

Opportunity Details

Rate: $57.00/hour

Length of engagement: 4 months

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm

Location: Austin, TX 78756
