Position Overview
The Academic Support Coordinator for TRIO Student Support Services – Veterans (SSS‑V) plays a vital role in advancing Fayetteville State University’s commitment to student success by coordinating academic retention, tutoring, and mentoring initiatives for eligible first‑generation, low‑income, and veteran students. Primary Responsibilities
Coordinate the delivery of academic tutoring, mentoring, and retention services consistent with 34 CFR Part 646. Conduct academic‑needs assessments, monitor student progress, and provide proactive outreach to participants with DFWs, academic probation, or risk indicators. Develop and monitor individualized Academic Success Plans to improve performance and persistence. Recruit eligible participants using a variety of recruitment methods to obtain required members for SSS‑V. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise peer tutors and mentors, ensuring quality and compliance with institutional and TRIO standards. Manage tutoring schedules, maintain student records, and document services in the Blumen database for reporting and evaluation. Facilitate study‑skills, test‑taking, time‑management, and financial‑literacy workshops designed to strengthen academic self‑efficacy. Coordinate virtual and on‑campus tutoring sessions to support commuter, online, and non‑traditional students. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, sociology, social sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution. One to two years of experience providing academic support or working in TRIO or similar federal programs that serve under‑represented, under‑resourced, and/or veteran populations. Demonstrated skill in coordinating tutoring, advising, or mentoring services. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of TRIO SSS objectives, participant eligibility, and compliance standards (34 CFR 646.3‑646.4). Understanding of the educational transition needs of veterans and adult learners. Ability to implement data‑driven retention strategies and interpret academic‑performance metrics. Strong facilitation, advising, and case‑management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Blumen, and online learning or collaboration platforms (e.g., Teams, Canvas, Zoom). Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree (preferred). Experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by SSS‑V participants preferred. Notice to Applicants
