Position Overview
The Design Engineer I will collaborate with R&D’s engineered-to-order (ETO) team to create cost-effective design solutions for our retail store fixtures, access gates, and warehouse equipment product lines. They will closely partner with the sales and product management team to develop unique solutions for clients. The Design Engineer I will also be responsible for executing various duties within the R&D department, including design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating, and process improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities
Produce designs and drawings of various product lines, incorporating engineered, efficient, best practice methods
Manage large or complex custom projects to ensure on-time completion
Create assembly and installation drawings for production and clients
Collaborate with production/manufacturing to ensure design/production flow
Develop and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs)
Prioritize cost savings throughout all processes, offering value-engineered solutions
Intimately involved in the assembly of prototypes
Create renderings, models, mockups, and design validation samples from sketches and architectural drawings
Maintain samples, specification sheets, design guide content, and internal procedures documentation
Conduct research and development efforts, generating reports relating to materials and manufacturing techniques, coordinating with various vendors and industries
Conduct testing of design solutions to ensure functionality and quality
Assist in the development of company standards and specifications for ETO projects
Skills and Experience
Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in engineering, industrial, or design
0–2 years of relevant experience, with a preference for sheet metal, steel tube, and steel wire fabrication processes
Knowledge of multi-materials including wood, steel, aluminum extrusions, plastics, and glass
Proficiency in 3D solid modeling, preferably SolidWorks, and exposure to software such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, SolidWorks Driveworks, and PDM/Vault
Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively, and work under pressure of timelines and customer demands
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and work independently on multiple small projects simultaneously
10% travel required
