Position Purpose Under the direction of the Senior Director, the Horticultural and Landscape Supervisor manages daily and seasonal duties for the Grounds Services Department, focusing on athletic fields, campus turf, shrub, tree care and irrigation. The supervisor coordinates with facilities managers across the college to maintain a healthy and attractive landscape that supports Dartmouth’s recruitment and retention efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise daily performance of grounds services staff, maximizing contributions and ensuring coordination across departments.

Schedule coverage for snow removal operations of campus roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and steps.

Collaborate with other supervisors to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Provide direction, performance management, coaching, and development to staff.

Manage resource scheduling, assignments, and identify training opportunities.

Engage in high-level customer service and relationship management with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations, maintaining a safe work environment.

Prepare work order reports, KPIs, and SLAs; provide expertise and guidance to staff.

Assist with capital project planning, annual maintenance planning, budgeting, contract and vendor management.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree plus 5+ years experience in grounds maintenance, or equivalent education/experience.

Associate or bachelor’s degree in horticultural science, forestry or related field.

Experience leading staff, budgeting, scheduling and managing multiple projects.

Knowledge of pesticide and herbicide application; NH supervisory pesticide license (shade, tree, ornamental, turf, right-of-way) or ability to obtain within 1 year.

Knowledge of safe operation of vehicles and equipment used to maintain grounds.

Computer literacy and proficiency with standard business software.

Valid driver’s license and compliance with the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
