Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Tonawanda, New York.

Pay & Benefits

Hourly Pay: $31.24 per hour

Sign On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days

Certification Bonus: $100 for each New ASE Certification obtained up to $700

Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year

Tool Box/Tool Allowance

Schedule: Monday–Friday, Weekends OFF

Hours: Mid Shift 11:30 am – 8:00 pm

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Vocational or Technical Certification – post secondary degree or technical certifications, preferred

Basic tools required

Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:

Routine preventative maintenance: oil changes, brake and tire work

Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems, required

Three (3) years or more relevant work experience, preferred

Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred

All other certification as required by location, required

Must have minimum of 2 years experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment

Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.

Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire

Pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background check.

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including:

Standard and preventive maintenance

Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable

Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision

Replace defective components as instructed

Work unsupervised on most tasks

Perform facility maintenance duties

Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task

Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation

Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)

Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels

Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents

Other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to Service Island support

Complete SBTIII training within 180 days

Complete 2 of the OEM On‑Line diagnostic scan tool software courses required by location within 365 days
