Job Duties and Responsibilities

Build, create and manage merchandise assortments by category through existing and new brands that align with market and consumer trends to support the achievement of annual sales and margin targets. Assortment creation includes selecting and purchasing merchandise by considering type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix, and promotions. Managing assortments includes continual evaluation of pricing, demand, forecasting and product flow.

Analyze economic, financial, market, competitive/non-competitive and industry data to assess current business strategies or identify future business opportunities. Assume the customer’s perspective and ensure merchandising strategies will meet customer needs now and in the future.

Manage execution, responsibilities and workload of direct reports to achieve department deliverables on time and with quality. Provide direct reports with timely and regular feedback to support development and growth. Drive engagement by creating a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve objectives.

Build and manage relationships with vendors and cross‑functional teams. Leverage vendor relationships to gain knowledge and data as it pertains to product category. Utilize established relationships for product selection and pricing negotiations.

Serve as a liaison to the buying team and cross‑functional departments at A.D. STARR and DICK’S Sporting Goods to identify, evaluate and execute on new or overlapping initiatives.

Shop comparative youth sports equipment and uniform providers to identify new trends and opportunities, evaluate merchandise mix, evaluate competition, and translate findings into executable product plans.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, merchandising or a business‑related field.

5–7 years of experience in a leadership/management role. Experience in Merchandise Planning preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Effective multi‑tasking skills.

Strong analytical and statistical skills.

Ability to travel.
