Purchasing Specialist (Food Manufacturing)

A Purchasing Specialist in food manufacturing focuses on sourcing, ordering, and managing inventory of raw materials and supplies to support production while ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Place and track purchase orders for ingredients, packaging, and operational supplies.
Ensure timely delivery of goods to meet production schedules.
Maintain accurate records of orders, deliveries, and supplier communications.
Use ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP) to manage purchasing workflows and maintain data accuracy.
Generate reports on purchasing trends, costs, and supplier performance.
Communicate with vendors to confirm pricing, availability, and lead times.
Assist in evaluating and onboarding new suppliers.
Negotiate with external vendors to secure advantageous terms.
Discover profitable suppliers and initiate strategic partnerships.
Design and implement supply chain optimization projects.
Analyze, optimize, and oversee inventory procedures.
Develop procurement, shipping, and compliance standards.
Monitor and control spend to build a culture of long-term savings.
Notify senior management of any supply chain risks or inefficiencies.
Support international procurement, sourcing, and product development initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration.
Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred).
3+ years of purchasing or supply chain experience in food manufacturing or related industry.
Expertise in manufacturing processes and cost optimization.
Experience in supplier negotiations and relationship management.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proficient in MS Office and data analysis tools.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
