Summary

Employees at this grade level provide services in specialized and complex areas of radiologic technology and/or general diagnostic radiology services for the Diagnostic Imaging Service. The incumbent performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations on all body regions, including complex procedures with multiplanar reformations, 3D reconstructions, dynamic contrast imaging, body MRI, and MRI angiography. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for MRI duties performed independently. Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course or equivalent in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies. English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). May qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if applicable. Grade Determinations: GS-9 Experience

At least one year of experience at the next lower grade level demonstrating clinical competencies. Fully functional as an advanced DRT, capable of performing complex scans independently. Varying assignments may include complex imaging procedures, clinical instruction, and quality management duties. Must demonstrate technical KSAs including the ability to balance patient and staff needs, assess contraindications, and knowledge of patient care practices. Preferred Experience:

4+ years as a general radiographer 2+ years in MRI advanced certification area Experience using Siemens MRI Duties

Perform MRI and general diagnostic radiography, including x-rays, fluoroscopic exams, and operating room procedures. Ensure availability and stock of MRI supplies and equipment. Perform MRI scans of head, neck, spine, chest, and body, with and without contrast. Maintain aseptic techniques and patient safety, including contrast administration and safety practices. Work with radiologists, assist in exam procedures, and monitor patient condition. Prepare and administer contrast materials, understanding their effects and reactions. Practice MRI safety, participate in quality assurance, and maintain imaging records. Ensure proper identification of patient images and transmit images to PACS. Perform digital radiography and patient examinations, ensuring proper preparation and positioning. Work Schedule and Benefits
