The role you’ll contribute The Vascular Ultrasound Technologist, under general supervision, performs a wide range of Sonography and Vascular Sonography procedures in accordance with department protocols, contributing to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic information for the treatment and prognosis of vascular disorders and other medical conditions. This role operates at a technical level, conducting ultrasound procedures across a broad spectrum of patient ages, from neonatal through geriatric, ensuring high-quality exams for interpretation by medical professionals such as Cardiologists and clinic physicians. In addition to routine diagnostic tasks, the Vascular Ultrasound Technologist assists physicians with interventional procedures, employing ultrasound as a guidance tool where necessary. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of both departmental and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the field of Sonography and Vascular Surgery. The Vascular Ultrasound Technologist is expected to exercise independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in performing diagnostic scans, selecting practical applications and technical factors, and assuming responsibility for designated areas or procedures. Engagement in the performance improvement program is essential, as is adherence to the Corporate Compliance Plan and all rules and regulations of applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. This position emphasizes the importance of outstanding customer service, maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, and occasionally entails teaching and directing the work of other staff and students. The ability to deliver safe and effective patient care, consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and core values, is paramount. Graduate from an applicable accredited program - required.

Exam Supervision and Administration: Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus and/or NPO prep status as observed by Radiologists, Ultrasound Educator, and Ultrasound Manager. Follows proper exam protocols as outlined in department Policy and Procedure manual. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam. Performs, properly documents, and reports all procedures in accordance with departmental policy. Adapts procedure to each patient’s medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation. Maintains patient confidentiality.
Diagnostic Image Quality and Documentation: Reviews all images on ultrasound machine or Web and thoroughly fills out Ultrasound worksheet in a timely manner. Re-scans patient as requested by Radiologist. Is open to critique of exams by Radiologist and/or department Manager/Educator. Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade clinical skills. Maintains familiarity with new procedures. Assists with clinical instructions and serves as a resource to less experienced employees.
Personal Productivity and Accountability: Completes exams in a timely manner. Properly and consistently evaluates patient prep status and schedules exam accordingly. Coordinates acceptable patient throughput in either an IP and/or OP setting keeping the department on schedule and maintaining desired productivity. Follows direction from Manager and Lead Sonographer. Keeps supervisor or manager informed and seeks assistance from appropriate individuals when confronted with complicated procedures to ensure safe and effective patient care. Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Maintains a professional relationship with all customers. Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and understanding.
Data Processing: Utilizes computer system to update exam status, cancel/update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedure completed. Confirms proper exam/patient assignment at QC before releasing images to PACS for interpretation. Corrects erroneous accession numbers in PACS when needed. Notifies Radiology Facilitator (RF) and transmits required worksheet and requisition for all after-hour's cases. Effective knowledge of all Information Systems used in the Ultrasound department. Accurately documents, completes and charges procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital. Follows all AdventHealth policies and departmental procedures' outlines.
Qualifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
ARDMS/ARRT and/or CCI credentials to include:
1.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS (AB)
AND
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS (OB/GYN)
AND one of the following:
a.
Registered Vascular Technology RVT (VT)
b.
Registered Vascular Sonographer RVS (VS)
Preferred qualifications:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS (BR) OR
American Registry of Radiologic Technologies RT (BS)
Graduate of Vascular Ultrasound Program
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field
