Brown University Health . Summary: Prepare patients for exams and transport patients to and from various modalities. Prepare rooms for procedures and process films, and CD’s. Assist radiologists and technologists in procedures by moving patients and obtaining supplies and equipment. Optimize patient throughput by adjusting schedules, retrieving protocols, orders and requisitions from referring physicians. Responsibilities
Demonstrates understanding of Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values.
Demonstrates understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment plan.
Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service Standards.
Complies with department policies, procedures, and protocols; reviews policies, procedures, and Employee Handbook.
Completes mandatory education: Hospital-wide, Department-specific, Job-specific.
Maintains current CPR certification.
Participates in department and interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
Receives, unloads x-ray cassettes, and processes films as necessary; cleans film cassettes and logs them actively.
Demonstrates ability to select correct patient ID and exam from Worklist Manager; assists physicians in locating images within RIS, file rooms and PACS workstations.
Processes images through the CR units; prepares patients for fluoroscopic studies (e.g., upper GI and lower bowel series) and other radiology exams; instructs patient on gowning and explains procedures.
Sets up radiology room for procedures; assists technologists to set up sterile trays and during procedures, including moving patients and obtaining supplies and equipment.
Transports patients within the Diagnostic Imaging Department and to/from the Emergency Department or floors as necessary.
Maintains cleanliness of radiological rooms and patient changing rooms; stocks changing rooms daily.
Processes patient information in RIS; verifies exams and manages charges; updates Physician Order Management System as needed.
Assists with obtaining protocols for patients’ BUN/Creatinine levels for CT exams; prepares patients prior to CT, mammography, radiologic and MRI exams by changing clothes.
Performs other related functions as required by modality lead tech or chief tech.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Limited medical terminology and computer keyboard skills.
Current CPR certification; patient care skills; work history in medical field.
Physical requirements: able to stand/squat 1-3 hours and walk 3-7 hours; frequent twisting and moderate bending; lift over 50 lbs with good body mechanics; able to use both hands/wrists with frequent fine motor skills.
Visual and hearing requirements: near and far vision 20/40; depth perception; color discrimination (red-green and blue-violet); ability to hear whispers from eight feet.
