Location: Milwaukie, WI, United States (US:WI:MILWAUKEE)

FTE: 1.00 (Full-Time, 40 hours). Shift: 1st shift (4, 10‑hour shifts for 5:00 am–3:30 pm, Tuesday–Friday). Holiday rotations required.

Summary:

Using appropriate phlebotomy techniques, drives to long‑term care (LTC) clients and private homes to collect specimens from patients and enters data into the computer system.

Responsibilities

Collect patient specimens using all phlebotomy techniques, including blood cultures and venipunctures.

Consistently collect the accurate amount and type of specimens, process specimens appropriately (putting them on ice, in warm water, or protecting them from light), and transport specimens in a timely manner to the main lab for testing, as appropriate.

Identify all special draws prior to phlebotomy.

Complete workload in a timely and efficient manner.

Adhere consistently to WDL patient identification and labeling policies.

Practice all applicable patient isolation and standard precautions procedures, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly.

Adhere to dispatch guidance and obtain appropriate documentation in the field when necessary.

Maintain travel log documentation and specimen receipt processes.

Follow company vehicle maintenance policy and procedures.

Check routinely for specimen pick‑ups at LTC facilities or patients’ homes.

Adhere to company and department guidelines for yearly competency assessments.

Navigate streets and highways efficiently using available resources.

Complete centrifuge calibration at various sites as scheduled.

Complete applicable training documents and actively participate in training as needed.

Complete missing specimen forms as needed.

Adhere to company policy regarding patient confidentiality and PHI.

Manage LTC supply orders and deliver supplies in a timely manner.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Completion of an external phlebotomy program including clinical experience, or Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories Phlebotomy School or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 months experience and 100 draws, or 1 year full‑time experience and 100 draws.

Windows‑based computer skills and clerical proficiency (telephones, emails, pagers, fax).

Map reading and way‑finding skills throughout the Greater Milwaukee area.

Demonstrated complex problem‑solving skills.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to operate independently.

Valid WI driver’s license and a driving record meeting WDL’s standards.
