Long Term Care Phlebotomist, WDL; Full Time – 1st Shift

1st Shift (2:00 pm – 12:30 am, Monday – Thursday with rotating holidays)
Summary:
Using appropriate phlebotomy techniques, drives to LTC clients and private homes to collect specimens from patients and enters data into the computer system.
Responsibilities
Collects patient specimens using all phlebotomy techniques including blood cultures, venipunctures (syringes, butterflies).
Consistently collects the accurate amount and type of specimens, processes the specimens appropriately by putting them on ice, in warm water, or protecting them from light; and transports specimens in a timely manner to the main lab for testing, as appropriate. Identifies all special draws prior to phlebotomy.
Completes workload in a timely and efficient manner.
Consistently adheres to WDL patient identification and labeling policies.
Consistently practices all applicable patient isolation and standard precautions procedures. Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly.
Consistently adheres too dispatch guidance and obtains appropriate documentation out in the field when necessary.
Consistently adheres to travel log documentation and specimen receipt processes which may involve some sample processing.
Consistently adheres to company vehicle maintenance policy and processes.
Routinely checks for specimen pick ups at LTC facilities or patients homes.
Adheres to company and department guidelines for yearly competency assessments.
Efficiently navigate streets and highways using available resources for assistance.
Completes Centrifuge calibration at various sites as scheduled.
Completes applicable training documents and actively participates in training as needed.
Consistently completes missing specimens form as need arises.
Adheres to the organization expectations as it relates company policy regarding patient confidentiality and PHI.
Manage LTC Supply orders and delivers supplies in a timely manner.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Completion of external phlebotomy program including clinical and 6 months experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws OR completion of Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories Phlebotomy School or equivalent enterprise program including clinical and minimum 3 months experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws OR in lieu of education (in either case), minimum of 1 year full time experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws.
Windows-based computer skills and also skilled in clerical functions such as telephones, e-mails, pagers, running copy and fax machines.
Map reading and way-finding skills throughout the Greater Milwaukee area.
Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to operate self-sufficiently.
Valid WI driver’s license and Department of Motor Vehicle record meeting the requirements of Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories’ Driving Record Standards Policy.
