Position Overview The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Upstate Community Hospital inpatient psychiatric unit works in collaboration with an interdisciplinary health care team including attending psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers. All work is performed in a team-based approach to care.
The NP is responsible for initial evaluations, formulating diagnoses, managing ongoing treatment plans for acute psychiatric patients, determining discharge appropriateness, and coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team across the hospital system.
Position Responsibilities
Conduct psychiatric assessments and mental status exams, determine diagnostic impressions per DSM-5, and prescribe/administer medications.
Perform comprehensive histories, examinations, and compile medical data including behavioral health history.
Make referrals, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and document results.
Participate in treatment planning, record progress, and ensure continuity of care.
Counsel patients on treatment adherence, emotional health, and addiction issues.
Collaborate with physicians and other team members to provide psychiatric care.
Position Shift Full-time, including rotating evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
NYS license
Registered NP, ANCC certified in Psychiatric Nursing
Two years psychiatry experience preferred
Current CPR certification
