Job Description The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, conducts lab experiments, analyzes and communicates data in the form of primary research articles, aides in grant writing, supervises undergraduate students and performs routine lab duties as required. Works on projects focused on cellular and synaptic mechanisms underlying network excitability following traumatic brain injury using a variety of techniques, including in vivo whole-cell recording and two-photon microscopy, brain slice physiology, and genetic manipulation.

Required Education Appropriate doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Neuroscience

Prior experience with electrophysiology and/or two-photon microscopy imaging

Data analytical skills including the use of MATLAB and Python

Manuscript preparation and ability to communicate research results clearly

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Responsibilities

Experimental research: Conducts electrophysiology experiments in vivo and/or in brain slices.

Experimental research: Performs two-photon imaging in awake, moving mice.

Experimental research: Gives stereotaxic injections of AAV vectors into the mouse brain.

Experimental research: Performs cranial window preparation and traumatic brain injury surgeries.

Experimental research: Performs mouse brain sectioning, immunostaining, and imaging using confocal microscopy and slide scanner imaging.

Data analysis: Applies complex statistical analysis tools to data acquired from electrophysiology and imaging.

Data analysis: Interprets differences in data and designs follow-up experiments.

Data analysis: Communicates scientific results at lab meetings and scientific conferences.

Manuscript and Grant Proposal Writing: Writes for scientific publications.

Manuscript and Grant Proposal Writing: Assists with critiquing and writing publication review articles.

Manuscript and Grant Proposal Writing: Aides in writing research grant proposals to the NIH and NSF.
