Overview
School Based Behavioral Health Clinician - John F Kennedy Middle School, Enfield The Behavioral Health Clinician – Licensed SBHC is a licensed independent Behavioral Health provider who supports students and their families as a CHC employee in a school-based clinic. The clinician performs diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, develops care plans with clients and their families, offers individual, family, or group therapy as appropriate, and collaborates with psychiatric and/or medical providers who are part of the client’s care team. The clinician documents all clinical interventions in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations. The position is primarily focused on direct client care but may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students. This School Based Health Clinician is a full-time salaried position that follows a school-based calendar, mirroring the school schedule of 195 days per year. Responsibilities
Complete initial behavioral health evaluations; provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic. Run at least five groups per week of direct clinical work. Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, accept warm hand-offs from primary care providers and other health team members, and identify patients who may need Behavioral Health services as flagged by the BH clinical dashboard. Consult with providers within and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and patient progress. Coordinate with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refer as necessary for medication management. Attend clinical team meetings and component meetings as assigned. Meet productivity standards as outlined in annual performance reviews, focusing on quality clinical care. Encourage clients to express their feelings and develop insight into themselves and their relationships. Perform crisis interventions and assess immediate safety concerns, including risk related to homicide, suicide, or domestic violence. Guide clients in developing skills or strategies toward identified goals; develop and implement treatment plans in compliance with state regulatory and Joint Commission standards. Evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust activities or approaches as needed based on client status. Discuss with clients plans for life after therapy and work with family members to support clients’ understanding and coping. Maintain awareness of developments in the field and gather information about community resources to support therapy. Licensed clinicians may supervise student interns or other staff working toward licensure; unlicensed clinicians are actively working toward licensure. Administrative
Complete all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health department policies, including intake, prior authorization requests, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in a timely manner. Complete and lock all treatment notes no later than the end of the next business day. Prepare reports for outside agencies (e.g., DCF, Family Relations, probation) with appropriate client releases. Participate as a member of agency-wide committees as assigned. Qualifications
Licensure/Certification/Registration: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of CT preferred; license eligibility with current Associate license (MLSW, PC-A, MFT-A) with ability to obtain full licensure within 3 years. Professional licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) preferred. Minimum of two years of experience with outpatients, including experience with children and/or adults. Theoretical orientation consistent with brief, problem-focused therapy. Reliable access to transportation to outside agency consults, meetings, and home visits. Written and oral bilingual fluency in the language of the patient population is preferred (e.g., English/Spanish). Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Combination of sustained periods of sitting at a computer, walking, and stair climbing. Minimal lifting and carrying activities. Communication Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Interfaces with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization. Confidentiality
