Required Qualifications
Valid Occupational Therapy Assistant license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
COTA Certification (NBCOT)
Graduate of an accredited program in occupational therapy
Occupational Therapy Assistant experience (new grads welcome)
Other certifications or licenses may be required
Summary The Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct, hands‑on therapeutic interventions to support patients in regaining or developing skills necessary for daily living. Working under the supervision of a licensed OT, the Assistant implements individualized treatment plans, assists with adaptive techniques and equipment, and educates patients and their families on strategies to enhance functional independence.
Essential Work Functions
Deliver individualized occupational therapy interventions and treatments in accordance with the established treatment plan
Maintain and operate adaptive equipment and assistive devices integral to occupational therapy interventions
Provide education to patients and caregivers about occupational therapy techniques and strategies for effective self‑management
Collaborate with Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care
Monitor patient responses during treatment, accurately documenting outcomes in the medical record
Promptly report findings to the supervising Occupational Therapist
Provide care in diverse clinical settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community clinics
Adapt interventions to meet specific needs of each environment and evolving patient care needs
Prioritize tasks efficiently to manage multiple patients and responsibilities
Maintain a safe treatment environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines
Perform additional duties assigned within scope of practice
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Follow written and verbal instructions; proficiency in PC skills
Physical stamina to remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse personnel
Technical/motor skills for fine manipulation and assistance with procedures
Mental resilience to handle frequent public interaction, meet deadlines, and maintain focus under pressure
Sensory acuity and effective communication ability
