Ultrasound Technologist Job Description
The Ultrasound Technologist utilizes ultrasound equipment to provide diagnostic sonographic examinations, locating, evaluating, and recording critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. This role includes providing on-call services for after-hours and emergency cases, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Working under direct supervision, the technologist ensures the accuracy and quality of ultrasound examinations, supporting physicians in making informed decisions and contributing to an optimal healthcare experience for patients.
Perform high-quality ultrasound examinations:
Conduct routine and specialized procedures following established protocols to minimize repeats and assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Ensure patient safety and comfort:
Explain procedures, address concerns, and position patients correctly to promote a positive experience.
Operate and maintain equipment:
Troubleshoot technical issues and optimize imaging parameters for high-quality images and accurate interpretations.
Document and record:
Maintain accurate patient information, examination details, and preliminary findings in PACS, resolving any errors to ensure proper records and effective communication.
Collaborate with healthcare team:
Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other professionals to ensure coordinated care and prompt sharing of critical findings.
Perform other duties:
As assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Radiology, Imaging, or related program.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years.
Licensure/Certification:
BLS (CPR) from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; ARDMS, ARRT RT(S), or CCI RVS certification. Vascular technologist certification required for sites without onsite Vascular Lab. Additional certifications in OB/GYN, Abdomen, Breast, Vascular, or Peds preferred.
Additional Information All sonographers will have 2 years to complete RVT requirements where applicable. New candidates have 16 months to complete this requirement. Our policies support diversity and equal opportunity employment.
