Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Admitting Clerk. In this role, the successful candidate performs duties related to the process of admitting patients to the hospital.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist in taking reservations from physician offices, organizing the daily admissions boards, assigning beds, entering all information into computer systems, answering telephone inquiries courteously, and assigning patients to appropriate accommodations.

Explain patients’ responsibilities, private room differentials, limited insurance coverage, and answer all admission inquiries. Contact physicians’ offices to clarify demographics or logistical issues.

Obtain required pre‑admission and admission information, verify source material authenticity and accuracy, and gather up‑to‑date information.

Adhere to departmental guidelines concerning sick time, vacation, personal days, and unpaid leave; maintain professional appearance and wear identification badge at all times.

Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and applicable federal, state, and city regulations; implement quality assurance programs and remain current on regulatory requirements.

Accurately update the computer system to reflect all patient demographics; obtain and witness required signatures on consent and financial agreements; review orders and enter admissions promptly.

Perform other duties as assigned; suggest improvements to the department; volunteer assistance; seek additional assignments when work is completed; display adaptability and prioritization.

Communicate with physicians, patients, families, and visitors courteously; maintain confidentiality; respond to inquiries promptly; keep accurate records and admissions log.

Compute and compile daily census statistics accurately from the computer system and bed board.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Light typing and computer working knowledge, good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hospital admissions experience and/or familiarity with insurance verification procedures.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
