Admitting Clerk - NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (F/T 35 hrs per week, Monday - Friday 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM) NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital at NYU Langone Health is one of the nation’s leading orthopedic and rheumatologic specialty hospitals dedicated to the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Admitting Clerk. In this role, the successful candidate performs duties related to the process of admitting patients to the hospital.

Job Responsibilities

Assist in taking reservations from the physician’s offices, organizing the daily admissions boards, and assigning beds. Accurately and expeditiously enter all information into the computer systems and admission waiting lists.

Answer telephone calls courteously and address all inquiries. When necessary, assist in assigning patients to appropriate accommodations.

Explain patient responsibilities, such as private room differentials and insurance coverage. Thoroughly answer all patient inquiries pertaining to admission.

Contact the physician’s office to rectify any patient demographics or logistical problems.

Obtain the required pre‑admission and admission information. Verify source materials for authenticity and accuracy, and gather correct and up‑to‑date information.

Adhere to departmental guidelines concerning sick time, vacation, personal days, and other paid/unpaid leaves. Arrive on time, provide proper notification of absences or tardiness, and maintain a professional appearance.

Ensure departmental compliance with applicable standards of The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and applicable federal, state, and city regulations. Design and implement a comprehensive program of quality assurance. Stay aware of current regulatory requirements and answer any questions pertaining to these documents.

Accurately update the computer system to reflect all personal demographic information. Explain thoroughly all forms, obtain and witness required signatures on consent and financial agreements, and review previously obtained orders for accuracy.

Enter each admission in the admission log book promptly.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Make appropriate suggestions to enhance or benefit the area or department. Volunteer assistance to others when appropriate and seek additional assignments when assigned work is completed. Demonstrate an ability and desire to learn more skill sets.

Recognize and prioritize tasks, maintain adaptability to scheduling changes, and use reference materials to ensure accuracy.

Cooperate and communicate with all hospital staff, including physicians, patients, families, and visitors in a courteous, effective, and professional manner. Protect confidentiality of all patient, physician, and hospital information.

Compute and compile the hospital’s daily census. Gather required statistics, accurately record and transcribe all data.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent. Light typing and computer working knowledge required, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Hospital admissions experience and/or familiarity with insurance verification procedures.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $50,363.24 – $54,108.68 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
