The City of Alvarado is looking for a skilled and dedicated Chief Wastewater Plant Operator to join our team as we prepare for an exciting new chapter in our city’s development.

We are only months away from completing major upgrades to our wastewater treatment plant, designed to serve 4,500 new homes anticipated over the next decade. About the Role As Chief Wastewater Plant Operator, you’ll be responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of our state‑of‑the‑art wastewater treatment systems. You’ll ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations while helping to keep our community clean, healthy, and ready for the future.

Your expertise will support the city’s commitment to responsible growth, environmental protection, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

Operate and maintain treatment processes, including pumps, motors, aeration systems, clarifiers, and disinfection systems.

Collect and analyze samples, conduct laboratory tests, and make data‑driven process adjustments.

Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.

Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues.

Mentor and assist in training junior operators.

Participate in on‑call rotations, weekend shifts, and emergency response when needed.

What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Texas Class B Wastewater Operator License.

Working knowledge of SCADA systems, lab analysis, and mechanical troubleshooting.

Understanding of biological and chemical treatment processes (activated sludge, nutrient removal).

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a related field and one year of experience, or three years of equivalent experience.
