Outstanding Surgical Oncologist Opportunity to Join Drs. Mark Cohen and Claudius Conrad at Carle Foundation Hospital with Academic Appointment through the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Opportunity Details
Carle Cancer Institute and Carle Illinois College of Medicine are excited to add an academic surgical oncologist to their team. The candidate should have experience with a broad range of surgical oncology conditions and have expertise in GI malignancies, such as stomach, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract cancers, as well as small bowel cancer, adrenal tumors, melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, and when occasionally necessary assist oncology team in Urbana with rare excisional nodal biopsies and feeding tube placement. Training and interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery are preferred. The candidate will enjoy a very generous compensation package in a stable, vertically integrated Carle Health System, while practicing in a multi-disciplinary setting. The health system has over 17,000 employees across several hospitals, covering a population of about 2.5 million people. The candidate would participate in our weekly Upper GI Tumor Board, outpatient clinics at the Carle Cancer Institute, and have strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Advanced GI Endoscopy. Carle Cancer Institute has strong clinical cancer research with an NCORP Grant (PI: Ken Rowland, MD) from the National Cancer Institute and currently > 100 open clinical trials. This candidate will work with two other surgical oncologists in practice. Carle is at the forefront of technological advances in medicine and surgery through its collaboration with the Carle Illinois college of Medicine, the world’s first fully accredited engineering based medical school leading the world in integration of AI, data science, and global health medical innovation. These technological advances have already found their way into daily clinical practice such as AI-generated note taking, virtual organ modelling for surgical planning, and others. Qualifications
Post-fellowship clinical experience recommended. Board-certified in general surgery and complex general surgical oncology. Excellent interpersonal skills for program building. Interest or training in Minimally Invasive Surgery is preferred. Academic Appointment & Research Time
The position includes dedicated time for teaching CI COM medical students and General Surgery Residents at Carle’s General Surgery Residency Program. For candidates with a strong academic background, a 0.2 FTE of protected research/academic time would be available. For clinical research, Carle Cancer Institute supports investigator-initiated studies through Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute. UIUC Basic Science Cancer Center houses over 75 cancer investigators with substantial funding, and a new partnership for drug development using AI-infused chemistry and synthesis. How to Apply
