Outstanding Breast Surgery Position at Carle Foundation Hospital with an academic appointment through Carle Illinois College of Medicine, located in Champaign‑Urbana, Illinois.
Opportunity Details Carle Cancer Institute, a home of the Mills Breast Cancer Institute in Urbana, and Carle Illinois College of Medicine are excited to add a breast surgical oncologist to their team. The candidate should have experience with a broad range of breast surgery for benign and malignant breast conditions and, when occasionally necessary, assist the oncology team in Urbana with rare excisional nodal biopsies for other malignancies and with feeding tube placement and Port line placement for chemotherapy administration.
Carle offers a generous compensation package in a stable, vertically integrated Health System, and the position includes participation in the weekly breast tumor board at Carle Cancer Institute with strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Plastic Surgery. The candidate will also engage in basic, translational, and clinical research opportunities and will be involved in teaching medical students and residents.
Responsibilities
Perform breast surgeries for benign and malignant breast conditions.
Assist the oncology team with rare excisional nodal biopsies for other malignancies.
Place feeding tubes and Port lines for chemotherapy administration.
Participate in the weekly breast tumor board at Carle Cancer Institute.
Collaborate with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Plastic Surgery teams.
Conduct and contribute to basic/translational research and investigator‑initiated studies.
Teach Carle Illinois College of Medicine medical students and General Surgery residents.
Support multidisciplinary cancer care across the Health System.
Qualifications
General surgeon with a surgical oncology fellowship, or a general surgeon currently in practice with breast surgery comprising at least 50% of their current practice volume.
Excellent interpersonal skills for program building and team collaboration.
Fellowship‑trained candidates and new graduates are welcome to apply.
Strong academic background enabling a 0.2 FTE protected research/academic time for qualified candidates.
Experience in multidisciplinary cancer care and experience teaching medical students or residents.
Compensation & Benefits The compensation range for this position is $425,000–$475,000 per year. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package, protected research time for qualified candidates, and an academic appointment at Carle Illinois College of Medicine.
