Health Unit Coordinator, Wound Center (Per Diem)

Cape Cod Healthcare Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers. Greets patients, obtains/confirms accurate demographic/insurance information upon registering patients into scheduling software. Secures copies of valid insurance cards and identification of patients. Answers telephone calls promptly, directs calls to appropriate personnel and or departments and takes accurate messages. Retrieves and addresses all messages left on voice mail in a timely fashion. Schedules patient appointments in person or by telephone including but not limited to office visits, ancillary services, and consulting physician’s offices. Process insurance referrals and prior authorizations. Assures all information in the registration portion of the record is complete and accurate including insurance verification and consents. Responsible for registration and appointment request work ques specific to the department. Maintains organization of patient charts, department records and filing system to ensure efficient retrieval of information; affixes proper identification and aging labels on all charts, assists in location of missing charts and compiles new charts. Maintains physician’s daily appointment schedule; produces schedules from automated system; prepares the patients’ medical records for the following day’s office visits. Assures all patient visits are confirmed the day prior. Scans faxed or mailed correspondence, reports, test results into the patients record. Photocopies/faxes information, copies and provides medical records information for patients, outside agencies and physicians under established guidelines. Assists in the orientation of new personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

i. At least 1-year recent experience (within the past 5 years) as a Secretary or Patient Access Representative in a medical setting

ii. Successful completion of an accredited medical terminology course with a grade C or better

iii. Successfully pass a hospital generated test with a score of 80% or better

Must read, write, speak, and understands the English Language.

Purpose of Position

Provides administrative assistance in support of the day-to-day activities of the Wound Care Center.
